The Pantanal is the world's largest wetland. It is located in the Upper Paraguay River basin, in South America. The Pantanal extends through Central-West Brazil (70% of the overall area), Eastern Bolivia and North-Eastern Paraguay, covering about 200,000 km2 during the rainy season. The overall surface equals 5 European countries, the size of Belgium, Holland, Portugal and Switzerland put together Brazil's Pantanal spans 140.000 km2 throughout the States of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso Do Sul. It is located in South America's geographical centre.
