BomFuturo Plan for Sustainable Development
BomFuturo NPO has developed a Global Plan with the main goal of combining biodiversity conservation and
eco-sustainable development based on the rational use of natural resources available in the area Parque Fazenda BomFuturo, which incorporates also the BomFuturo Preserve.
As of July, 2004 the Plan is at the stage of its progressive definition – while it reflects BomFuturo’s typical and basic vision, it also aims to implement its Conservation and beyond proper mission: to carry out a series of pilot projects for sustainable development in the overall area of the Parque Fazenda. This view is also consistent with indications and guide-lines from European Union Co-operation Offices:
Pilot actions must relate to the implementation of the (…) MEAs (= Multilateral Environmental Agreements, MEAs). They may, for example, develop economic opportunities for rural populations based on the sustainable exploitation of natural resources. The pilot actions should be relevant beyond the specific local situation and have the potential to demonstrate the applicability of innovative approaches.
We have therefore defined a basic line of intervention consisting of four priority projects which could also co-finance, once they are implemented, the conservation projects for the BomFuturo Preserve.
Projects in this line are also targeted to motivate the local population as they have so far been excluded from any opportunity of economic development.
Conservation and Beyond Projects include the integration of new scientific methodology in the traditional cattle ranching activity, the implementation of an eco/agri-tourist initiative, the realization of clean energy production plant and a safety plan for waste disposal.
